Using the Soft Synths / DX instruments is a bit more complex than in later versions of SONAR - Tutorial 8 covers it pretty well. It isn't needed for using the DX instruments. Virtual piano is just a way of getting midi notes into your PC if you don't have a midi keyboard - you can also use the piano roll view or staff view to do this as well. Hope that works for you if you haven't tried it.

Hi - another relative newbie here when it comes to actually using Cakewalk properly! I still have Home Studio 2002 on my XP machine and I remember to make it play I had to go into Options > Audio > Advanced Tab and then put a tick in the box that says "Always use MME Interface, even when WDM drivers are available". I tried this many years ago (HS2002 on this machine) with the same frustrations as I have now and just finally went back to my cassette based four track machine, I don't want to do that again!!!!Īny help is most welcome and much appreciated!

Is there a specific place and/or way to install this? I downloaded DreamStation DXi2 and installed it, but HS2002 shows no indication of seeing it. SoundMAX WDM MIDI <- (on top and highlighted) Here are some of my PC specs if it might help.ġ.
I've heard that Cakewalk is supposed to be the easiest way to record music on a PC, but I can't seem to get my head around this MIDI thing.

I would like to learn how to do that stuff "in the box". I don't want to use this just to record all audio, relying on my Boss DR-550 mkII for the drums and percussion. in fact, I know nothing about MIDI at all.!!!!! I know ZERO about MIDI and how it is supposed to work in a DAW like this. even through the sample files and tutorials. I found the Virtual Piano on the install CD and tried to install that, it said OS not supported. but I can find none of these anywhere in the installed HS2002 on my PC. I cant find any DXi synths, it's supposed to have Virtual Sound Canvas DX1, DreamStation DX1. Installed fine on my XP Pro machine, I think. I've had HS2002 since it first came out, and I'm finally trying to get into using it!!!

Plus this article, I found during the early win 7 update day's was not easy to locate, on the cakewalk site these day's.
I have added this, here because Microsoft supported XP for 12+ years, & 2000 for almost 14+. I found Direct X v10 & 11 both had same install issue, reported updated in 2011 Fix.

I have music hardware 20+ that work's perfect, looks great and has no issues, other than the ability to use it on newer Microsoft OS product suites.īecause of Driver installer issue like the one reported here Reported DirectX 9 Installation Problems: 2004 2005. If you could still use it you can prove the validity of you copyright if it happens that someone report's a clam on social media sites like Youtube, where they are the owner creator. Think about copyright for electronic music, you might have created with legacy instrument's. Some of Us still have to use these legacy software's just.so legacy Roland's MIDI instrument's, can work with Microsoft's newer OS's. Is left with Installing XP mode which is does not support Virtual XP mode USB port play device driver connections. While, I know these, apps are now 13+ years old, however most legacy Roland equipment driver's software that can not be installed with Microsoft compatibility mode. Have been affected since 2004 2005 All affected products below were finally reported to not be Microsoft OS, version compatibility or Microsoft DirectX updates however, another Roland driver installer issue with a product everyone loves.but they would not support the update development with newer OS versions. The below music products by Roland's Cakewalk.now Gibson Cakewalk. I was always told that the Microsoft direct X or the OS was the cause of the issue.
I reported this inability to install Cakewalk application build on Direct X 8.1 for years. Hope this helps anyone that can't install legacy Roland Cakewalk products because of Direct X 8.1 installer issues.
